Wayfair’s largest shopping event of the year, Way Day, was held April 26-28 and offered consumers free shipping and deals on over a million items, with some discounts reaching up to 80%. This year represented the first three-day event and was a break from the two-day format of years past.
Way Day 2023 spending during the week ended 4/29/23 was 40% higher than the trailing four-week average. This lift follows a more subdued Way Day in October 2022, which boosted spending 24% to kick off the holiday season, but was only relatively in-line with the April 2022 and May 2021 events despite running for an additional day. The September 2020 lift of 22% was the lowest since Way Day began but was likely a result of stimulus driven demand during the pandemic. With inflation remaining elevated, one thing is certain: consumers are responding well to promotional events for discretionary goods.
